Washer Guide

Cleaning the LG Washer Water Inlet Filter

If your LG washer fills slowly or throws an IE (inlet error), the small mesh screens where the fill hoses connect are usually clogged with sediment. Cleaning them is one of the simplest washer fixes there is.

These screens sit inside the water inlet valve ports at the back of the machine and catch grit before it reaches the valve.

How to clean the inlet screens

  • Turn off both water taps and unplug the washer.
  • Unscrew the hot and cold fill hoses from the back of the machine; have a towel ready for drips.
  • Look inside each inlet port for the small mesh filter screen.
  • Gently pull the screen with needle-nose pliers, rinse it under running water, brush off sediment, and press it back in.
  • Reconnect the hoses snugly, reopen the taps, and check for leaks.

If cleaning doesn't fix the fill

If the screens were clean (or cleaning them didn't help) and the washer still fills slowly or shows IE, the water inlet valve itself or the pressure sensor may be at fault. Those are testable parts a technician can confirm.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an IE error mean on an LG washer?+
IE means the washer didn't fill with enough water in the expected time. Clogged inlet screens, partly closed taps, kinked fill hoses, or a failing inlet valve are the usual causes — start with the screens and taps.
