LG Washer OE Error — Drain Problems Explained

OE — sometimes read as 0E — is LG's drain error. The washer filled and washed fine but couldn't pump the water out in time, so it stops with the door locked and water still inside.

Nine times out of ten the fix is a clogged pump filter or a hose problem, both of which you can sort yourself.

Clean the drain pump filter

Front-load LG washers have a small access panel at the bottom-right front. Behind it is the drain pump filter — the single most common cause of an OE code.

  • Lay towels down and have a shallow tray ready; there's more trapped water than you'd expect.
  • Unscrew the filter slowly to let water drain, then clear out lint, coins, and hair.
  • Check the small impeller behind the filter spins freely.

Check the hose and standpipe

  • Make sure the drain hose isn't kinked behind the machine.
  • Confirm the hose isn't pushed too far down the standpipe, which causes siphoning and false drain faults.
  • If you have a utility sink or standpipe, verify it isn't itself clogged.

When to call a technician

If the filter and hose are clear and OE still appears, the drain pump may have failed or the wiring to it may be faulty. That's a parts-and-meter job rather than a clean-out.

Rather have a pro handle it?

Our technicians repair this across Toronto and the GTA — same-day in many cases, with clear pricing and a warranty on the work.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get the door open on an LG washer stuck on OE?+
Because there's still water inside, drain it first through the pump filter at the front. Once the water is out and power is cycled, the door unlocks normally.
Is OE the same as 0E on an LG washer?+
Yes — the display font makes the letter O and the number 0 look alike. Both refer to the same drain error.
