Washer Guide
Why Is My Washing Machine Leaking Water?
Where the water shows up tells you a lot. A leak from the front of a front-loader points one direction; water pooling under the back points another. Tracking the source is half the repair.
This covers the usual culprits across brands — including the common 'leaking from the bottom' case on Whirlpool, LG, and Samsung front-loaders.
Leaking from the front (front-load washers)
Water at the front edge of the door usually traces to the rubber door boot. Pull back the folds of the gasket and look for tears, trapped coins, or a buildup of grime breaking the seal.
A boot that's split or mouldy won't seal against the glass and leaks on the spin. It's a replaceable part.
Leaking from the bottom or rear
- Check the drain hose and fill-hose connections — loose clamps and worn washers are the simplest fix.
- A cracked or split internal hose, or a failing pump seal, drips down to the floor and reads as a 'bottom' leak.
- Overdosing detergent makes suds overflow the tub; cut back to a measured HE dose and see if it stops.
- On older machines, the outer tub seal or bearing can leak — a bigger job.
Before you call
Run a short cycle and watch with a flashlight to pin down exactly where the water appears and when — fill, wash, or spin. That single observation saves diagnostic time and often points straight at the part.
