Water Leaking or Pooling in Your Fridge
Water showing up inside the fridge, under the crisper drawers, or on the floor almost always traces back to one of three things: a blocked defrost drain, a water-supply issue, or a worn door seal.
Where the water is tells you the cause
- Pooling under the crisper drawers → a clogged or frozen defrost drain (the most common cause).
- Water on the floor near the back → a cracked drain pan or a leaking water-supply line.
- Frost and condensation around the door → a worn or dirty door gasket letting humid air in.
- Water near the dispenser → a loose or split water line behind or under the fridge.
What you can try
For a defrost-drain clog, the drain hole sits at the back of the freezer floor. Thawing it with warm water and clearing the line often fixes recurring puddles.
Clean the door gasket with warm soapy water and check it seals against a sheet of paper all the way around. If the paper slides out easily, the gasket likely needs replacing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the defrost drain keep freezing up?+
On many models a small check valve or drain heater fails, letting the line re-freeze. A technician can fit the updated part so it stops recurring.
