Why Is My Frigidaire Fridge Leaking Water?

A Frigidaire that leaks water almost always has one of two problems: a blocked defrost drain dripping inside, or a water-supply issue pooling underneath. Where the water collects tells you which.

Both are common and the first is often a do-it-yourself fix.

Water inside the fridge or under the drawers

Water collecting under the crisper drawers points to a clogged defrost drain. During the defrost cycle, meltwater is supposed to run down a small drain to a pan beneath the fridge. When that drain ices up or clogs with debris, the water backs up and spills into the compartment.

Clearing it means thawing the drain and flushing it — accessible on many models from inside the freezer at the back.

Water on the floor

  • Check the water-supply line to the ice maker and dispenser for loose fittings or a split tube.
  • Inspect the drain pan underneath — a cracked pan or one knocked out of position drips onto the floor.
  • On models with a water filter, a filter that's loose or seated wrong can weep at the housing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I clear a clogged defrost drain on a Frigidaire fridge?+
Once you've located the drain hole at the back of the freezer floor, gentle flushing with warm water usually clears the ice and debris. If it refreezes quickly, a worn drain component may need attention.
Why is there ice on the bottom of my freezer and water below?+
That's the classic clogged-defrost-drain pattern — meltwater can't escape, so it freezes into a sheet on the freezer floor and overflows toward the fridge and floor.
