Common Appliance Problems in Pickering Homes
Pickering covers a wide spread of housing ages. Bay Ridges, Dunbarton and Rosebank have 1960s and 70s bungalows and split-levels; Amberlea, Liverpool and Brock Ridge are 80s and 90s subdivisions; and Seaton, north of Taunton, is brand-new builder housing. The appliance that breaks, and why, tracks closely with which of those you're in.
Here's what we're called for most.
Older south Pickering homes
In Bay Ridges and the other older neighbourhoods the laundry is usually in the basement and the appliances are often long-serving. The calls are classic: a fridge that has stopped cooling, a washer that won't spin or drain, a range with a dead element or igniter. Most of these machines are worth keeping, and the repair is a wear part.
- Basement washer not spinning or draining
- Fridge not cooling or freezer frosting up
- Oven element or igniter failed
- Dryer not heating or taking two cycles
Builder-package appliances in Seaton
Seaton homes came with a standard appliance set, and many of those sets are now just past the manufacturer warranty. The first fault on a two- or three-year-old front-load washer, French-door fridge, or glass-top range is often a sensor, a door lock, or a control fault that shows as an error code. An accurate diagnosis matters here: the right part is usually inexpensive, and a nearly new appliance should not be replaced over a code.
- Front-load washer error codes just after the warranty ends
- French-door fridge ice maker or dispenser not working
- Glass-top range zone not heating or control fault
- Dishwasher not draining or not drying
Before you book
Note any error code and have the model number ready. For Seaton homes it's also worth checking whether the appliance is still inside its warranty window; if it is, we'll say so rather than charge for a repair the manufacturer should cover.
