Dryer Guide
Dryer Making Noise
Dryers get noisy as the parts that support and turn the drum wear out. The type of noise — squeal, thump, or grind — points to which part is the problem.
Match the noise to the part
- Squealing or screeching → a worn idler pulley or glides, often with a dry belt.
- Repeated thumping → a flat spot on a drum support roller, or a damaged belt.
- Grinding or rumbling → worn drum rollers or a failing rear drum bearing.
- Rattling → a loose object in the drum or blower, or coins in the lint area.
Stackable units
Stackable and laundry-centre dryers use the same rollers, pulleys, and belts as standard models, so the causes are identical. The main difference is access — the cabinet is tighter, which makes a confident diagnosis and the right replacement parts matter even more.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a noisy dryer a fire risk?+
The noise itself isn't, but worn parts run hotter and a seized blower can reduce airflow — which, combined with lint, raises risk. It's worth fixing promptly and keeping the vent clean.
