LG Dryer LE1 Error — Drum and Motor Locked

LE1 on an LG dryer is a motor-lock or rotor-position error: the control tried to spin the drum and the motor didn't turn as expected. The dryer protects itself by stopping rather than forcing it.

Some causes are simple mechanical binding; others are electrical. Here's how the two differ.

Rule out mechanical binding

  • Make sure the drum isn't overloaded — a packed drum the motor can't start will throw LE1.
  • With the dryer off, reach in and turn the drum by hand. It should rotate with light resistance, not grind or seize.
  • Listen for anything caught between the drum and the bulkhead, like a stray sock or coin.

The electrical side

If the drum turns freely by hand but LE1 returns under power, the issue moves to the motor itself, the Hall sensor that reads rotor position, or the connections between them.

These need a multimeter and dryer disassembly to confirm — and on direct-drive LG dryers the diagnosis is specific enough that it's worth a technician rather than swapping parts blindly.

Rather have a pro handle it?

Our technicians repair this across Toronto and the GTA — same-day in many cases, with clear pricing and a warranty on the work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I keep using my LG dryer with an LE1 code?+
No — the dryer won't run a normal cycle while LE1 is active, and forcing repeated starts can overheat the motor. Diagnose the cause first.
